Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Vivaldi… What do you call music composed by them? Classic or Classical?
Classical, indeed! Classical music.
“My father has always been a great fan of classical music.” (not classic)
“The music will have a traditional tone with pieces from classical composers such as William Byrd, George Handel and Sir Edward Elgar.” (from a BBC article about the Coronation of King Charles III).
Another use of the word classical
You can also use classical when talking about the Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations.
“The Parthenon epitomises classical Greek architecture.”
“Classical architecture is represented by symmetry, columns, rectangular windows, and marble.”
And when can we use classic?
The adjective classic is used in the sense of typical. A perfect example of something is classic
“Your excuse is a classic example of procrastination.”
Classic also means “of high quality” when talking about books, films, or music.
“When I lived in Paris, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Classic French literature even though my French was lacking at the beginning.”
Classic can mean traditional as well.
