Good timing!

Fotos gratis de CalendarioDo you want to be the person who can confidently say this?

“I speak English”. No buts.

It all starts with a decision and most importantly, good timing. It is September now, a time for new ventures. The other January, as they say.

But ask yourself: is this the right moment for you or rather the time it is supposed to be right?

If your answer to the first question is yes, go ahead! Lots of courses start now. Pretty straightforward.

If not, instead of going with the flow of what external factors dictate, consider this:

Is my motivation high at this point in time? Am I willing to put in the hours?

Outside class, too.

Signing up for a course will not magically do the trick. Being in the classroom is not enough if you want to achieve a good level of confidence. It is a start but learning a language involves much more than attending lessons.

You do not want to end up feeling stuck or unmotivated and drop out, as some students do when they realise they don’t have time for homework, reading, listening to podcasts or any other activities that will help their progress.  Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to discourage you. On the contrary, by choosing the right moment, your chances of succeeding will spike up.

In other words, your journey to learning English will be more pleasant and inspiring.

Time, money and energy will be saved. The whole experience with the language will be more positive and that will translate into self-confidence. No overwhelm involved.

So, do yourself a favour, and begin when you are sure you will be able to follow through until you have reached the goal you have set for yourself. If you haven’t thought about it, put pen and paper and write it now.

And remember: experts recommend setting small achievable goals and working towards them one at a time. This can be more effective and motivating than striving for huge goals that seem daunting.

The more specific the better.

If you want to learn English for travelling, an example of this could be:

My first objective is to learn how to communicate at the airport (instead of: My objective is to learn English for travelling).

Step by step. This will give you momentum. And eventually, you will have attained your larger goal of being a person who can go on a trip abroad with the confidence that your English is up to the task.

Be strategic, make a plan and choose the right time to start.
