Part 1 — 2-minute Discussion

Candidate A:
Well, looking at the first point, I think working fewer hours could really help people have a healthier lifestyle. Nowadays, many people are stressed because they spend too much time working. If they had more free time, they could sleep more, cook healthy meals, or relax. What do you think?

Candidate B:
Yes, I completely agree. A lot of people spend the whole day sitting at work, and that isn’t healthy at all. Another good idea could be taking up a new sport or starting exercise again. Doing exercise helps people stay fit and also improves their mood. Don’t you agree?

Candidate A:
Definitely. Sport is good for both physical and mental health, and it can also be a way to meet new people. But what about avoiding all unhealthy food? Personally, I think that could be quite difficult. If people are too strict with their diet, they might give up quickly. What’s your opinion?

Candidate B:
I see what you mean. I think eating healthy food is important, but people should still enjoy their favourite food sometimes. Being too strict can become stressful. Moving on to reducing internet use, I think this could have a very positive effect because many people spend hours on social media comparing themselves to others. That can damage self-esteem. Do you think using the internet less would improve people’s well-being?

Candidate A:
Yes, probably. People might feel more relaxed and focused if they spent less time online. Now, regarding moving out of the city, I think living in the countryside could be healthier because there’s less pollution and noise. On the other hand, some people might miss the convenience of city life. What’s your view?

Candidate B:
That’s true, but I think the countryside offers a more peaceful lifestyle. People often have a stronger sense of community there, and that can reduce stress. Also, spending more time in nature is usually good for mental health.

Part 2 — 1-minute Decision Making

Candidate A:
So, which two ideas do you think would be the most effective for helping people live more healthily?

Candidate B:
In my opinion, working fewer hours is definitely one of the best options because people would have more time to rest and look after themselves. I’d also choose reducing internet use because it could improve mental health and give people more free time.

Candidate A:
I agree about working fewer hours, but instead of reducing internet use, I might choose taking up a new sport. Doing regular exercise is one of the healthiest habits people can have.

Candidate B:
That’s a good point. However, if people spent less time online, they might naturally start doing more activities like sport anyway.

Candidate A:
Yes, that makes sense. So, shall we agree on working fewer hours and reducing internet use?

Candidate B:
Yes, I think those are probably the most effective choices.
