CAMBRIDGE C1 ADVANCED (CAE) PROPOSAL – TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE

You attend a college that has many international students. You feel that the college website does not do enough to support new international students. You decide to write a proposal to the College Principal, explaining how the college website could be improved to help these students.

In your proposal, outline what extra information or advice you would include on the website and explain how this might help international students make the most of their time at the college.

PROPOSAL:

AN UPGRADE FOR WELLS COLLEGE WEBSITE

INTRODUCTION

The aim of this proposal is to draw attention to the fact that new international students could greatly benefit from some improvements to our College website and to contribute some ideas to that end.

CURRENT SITUATION

Following a survey among foreign students at Wells College, it has been concluded that a large percentage of them feel disoriented upon their arrival. The majority of them claim that this results in time-consuming telephone calls or visits to the College information desk. This could be solved by including sections on the website that meet these students’ needs.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Accommodation

It would be advantageous to facilitate a detailed description of the various student accommodation options contemplated by the College. Additionally, a system of rating reviews could be included. Being able to settle in successfully will make them feel more at home from the start,

Extra-curricular courses.

It is recommended that a subcategory dedicated to international newcomers is created, as activities which are indicated for them get lost in a sea of courses and conferences. If this change was implemented, the attendance would grow and they would not only expand their knowledge but also meet other students who share their same interests.

Social life

As things are now, there is no mention of activities promoting students’ social life inside or outside campus. Therefore, they rely on notice boards and the college magazine. Having such information conveniently displayed on the website could serve new students who are willing to participate in social events and forge new friendships.

CONCLUSION

It is my belief that if these areas are addressed, our College website will become an extremely useful tool to help new international students navigate their way into university life.
